Hello fellow MBN’ers
Well another month is over and everyone I speak to, comments on how fast the months are flying by already.
Those of you who managed to make it to our first breakfast club meeting of the year, were treated to a very passionate man talking about his own personal experiences in life, and how we can use these experiences to help us in business and life in general.
Stan Alves is an amazing person. For 30 minutes, we were exposed to a heartfelt summary of the successes and personal tragedies that he has endured. At times I felt like crying and others in spasmodic laughter, but Stan proved to us the age old law that if you want something bad enough, you will push yourself and eventually achieve it.
Without steeling too much of Stan’s thunder, he made several points that I took away from the talk:
- Associations are very important. If you associate with people who want the same as you, or are where you would like to be, you help create your mind set to be there.
- The importance of having mentors who will guide and push you to where you want to be
- Enjoy success, but don’t gloat
- Grade failure and hardships you go through to highlight that sometimes things are not as bad as they seem when compared to previous experiences that you or others have been faced with. I think many of us can probably relate to this with the personal tragedy that those in the Victorian Bushfires have faced over the last month.
So, if you did not make the breakfast, I would highly recommend going to Stan’s web site, www.stanalves.com.au and buying his book. Please don’t let the “Sacked Coach” title put you off by thinking it is just football stories, I challenge each and everyone of you to read it and then say that you do not feel motivated and will look at business and life a little differently.
The feedback we received from those that were there was fantastic and if you ever get a chance to hear him speak, I would strongly recommend it.
Well if you enjoyed the last breakfast, or if you now feel like you missed out, DO NOT MISS THE NEXT ONE. On the 31st of March, we have a wonderful opportunity to gain an insight into the roll of the Melbourne Lord Major. The City of Melbourne’s Lord Mayor position would be the most highly profile local Government position and we have the honour of having the Honourable Robert Doyle speak to us about his “First 100 Days” in office. I’m sure it will be an eye opening account that will entertain all. Bookings will be closing soon, so get in before the venue fills up.
We love your feedback and we welcome all Members to send us feedback or suggestions regarding the Association. As a committee, we represent our members and if you have an idea, suggestion or comment, please feel free to contact one of the committee members and pass it on. Hopefully, I personally get to meet each of you throughout the year; so don’t be shy; I love a good chat, (as those who know me will testify!)
If you are after a great business book to read, or a great present for a business associate, then the Melbourne Business Network Book Club is for you. The Association has teamed up with a member, Wilkinson Publishing to bring you a great deal on some fantastic business books. Like our Wine Club partnership with Wine Box Warehouse, I’m sure all members can benefit with some great bargins. Check out the web site for the links.
So it’s back to the grind stone and please check our web site for all the latest news.
Have a great month and we look forward to seeing you at our next breakfast.
Happy Networking
Regards
