It is late April and I am only just getting around to getting my April Newsletter out.
It has been a busy time for me personally and for all of us at MBN.
I have had a very busy 2 months in my business, have done a fair bit of my part time flying job, have a new business venture on my plate, and as usual, we have new opportunities popping up at MBN.
Anyway, enough said, but I would like to try a new approach to my Newsletters from now on.
Rather than me raving on about the great work MBN has been doing, I have decided to leave this up to our Executive Officer, John Stock, as he is at the "coal face", so as of the next eNewsletter you will be hearing from him.
Instead, I would like to select a new business topic and talk about my thoughts and see what people think and see if we can not all help each other.
SME business is a "roller coaster" ride of "ups and downs" and if we can just get that little bit of support or help, it can make our business/work goal seem that bit more achievable.
So this Month I would like to open the bag on business determination.
As a business owner, we are faced with daily challenges. Some days we solve the challenges well; others not so. Your emotions can swing like a roller coaster; massive highs to massive lows. It's great when you are at the "high", but from there, it is all down hill for a while.
The initial fall is not so bad, but as you approach the "low" it can be very demoralising and depressing.
But what can you do?
Be determined and have some people 'on hand" who will build your emotional state up again.
I have 2-3 people who I can always call and vent my frustrations on. they usually point out the good things that have occurred in the not so distant past and how I need to go back, look at what we did and get it happening again. They encourage me to "hang in there" and afterwards, I usually find the "inner strength" needed to push on and get back to a new "higher high". They also point out that there are always others who are in a worse situation and may not have experienced those "highs" recently and may not be able to get themselves out of the situation where they are currently finding themselves. This always helps to put a bit of perspective back into my emotional state.
Without going on, I would love to hear from others on how they deal with the emotional state of the business highs and lows.
NOW A BIG THANK YOU.
Those who attended the last Supper Club event, know that my Daughter and I had volunteered to help a team from our Karate State Team in a 24 hour Mega Swim to raise money for MS.
A big thank you to all of you who donated to our team. You know who you are and it was greatly appreciated.
Anyway, I promised to up date you.
We arrived on the Saturday lunchtime start, to find several people had "pulled out" and team numbers were tight. We straight away said we would do a continuous period, until we had to leave, to save the strength of those who would stay for the full 24 hours. My best ever swimming effort, to this day, was 2km in around 50 minutes, so I was not looking forward to the pain I was going to subject myself to.
But I am determined, and when you need to do something, just give it your best shot. This is how I try to approach all my business efforts.
In the 4.5 hours we did non-stop, I put in a 5.3km total and my 12 year old Daughter did 3.2km. We then fronted up on the Sunday morning to do another 2.5 hours and cover 3km for myself and 2km for my daughter. We were very "stuffed" and could not make our Karate State training that afternoon. Luckily we got a leave pass for our efforts!
While very sore that night, but also very proud of what we, (especially my Daughter), achieved, It gave me a huge lift from the business low I was on, (it had been a tough working week), but also showed me what "one" can achieve if you put your mind and body to it.
The event got some great media coverage on Channel 10 and SEN Sports Network. I am trying to get a hold of the Official photos to show everyone us doing laps. (Very boring photos is my guess!!!)
But we did do our little, however small, bit and overall they managed to raise just under $28,000.
Will we be back next year? Maybe, but if we do, we now have to put our mind to doing more than we did this year and aim to reach that Higher High.
Have a great Networking week and now over to John with the latest MBN news.
Cheers
