But we are all so consumed with work, we tend to feel it.
Where has the year gone?
As much as we say it, time does not charge its rate. It is probably the greatest constant we have. It is us who give it the appearance of "flying" as we continually load our self up with more and more commitments.
It is Christmas time again, and while we all trying to cram 2 months work into the few weeks run up to Christmas, we should all take a moment to reflect on the past year.
At MBN, we have had a challenging year; a challenge to continually grow, connect, entertain and educate, better than we did the year before.
This year has seen us learn about the latest trends in networking and visit Hollywood. We created our new and innovative "Supper Club" series and learnt about how vital good business practices are - "you know it makes sense", because Sam Kekovich told us. We fought hard to keep our reputation as the "Foodies Capital" on Melbourne's 175th Birthday and jammed packed Zinc as we celebrated Women in Business on "Integrity - The Essence of Success". We looked at Men's Health with the Governor and now we are planning a Birthday party ourselves!
Next year, Melbourne Business Network turns 15. That's right, we are in the peak of Adolescence and we know that every teenager loves a party! So it is our turn with Lord Mayor, Robert Doyle on February 16th 2011. Come and celebrate our birthday as we look back on how we have grown. Check out the web site for all the details.
Throughout the year, we have had the support of many people. Firstly I would like to thank our Partner, the City of Melbourne. We have a fantastic relationship with the City of Melbourne and we look forward to it continuing and growing throughout 2011.
We have also had great Sponsors in 2010. We thank Metlink and Westpac for their fantastic support and look forward to growing our relationship.
I would also like to thank all of the charity partners we have had. Whitelion, Think Pink Foundation, Second Bite, O'Brien Institute and Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation. All of them are an important part of our community and do a stirling job in the areas of our lives that they support.
MBN is a business, and a business does not survive without good staff. I would like to thank John Stock our Executive Officer and Tracey Davis our Admin Officer for the hard work they have given us throughout 2010.
Although not staff, the MBN Committee is an integral part of the operation. We have a great team and I would like to thank, Greg Robinson - Vice President, Jo Banks and Terri Mandler for there commitment. I would also like to thank David Marcus, Harsha Cooray and Tony Payne, who, for personal business and Sea changelifestyle reasons are no longer able to donate their time to continue as Committee members. They have been great contributors and we wish them all, great future success. They are all remaining as members, so we look forward to seeing them at our next event. We also welcome and thank our newest Committee member, Alan Knipe, who will bring a wealth of experience to the table. It is a thankless job that all Committee members do in ensuring the success of MBN and without them, we would cease to exist.
My final thanks are for YOU. Without you, we do not have a reason to exist. It is great to see you all at our events and hopefully, (even though sometimes hard), I do get to meet with each of you at one of our 2011 events.
So without any more of my waffle, it is time to wish each and every one of you, your family and staff, the very best for Christmas and a happy New Year.
We look forward to a big, bright and prosperous 2011.
Merry Networking
