MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Another month and the end of the year is fast approaching, well the financial year anyway!

As I write this, I’m sure all of you, like me, are sitting in front of your computer, anxiously sifting through what the Treasurer, (no not MBN’s treasurer), but Mr Swan, delivered in the annual budget. What will it hold for us as citizens and business owners?   We wait with baited breathe, (or a glass of wine or two)!

Well the AGM has been and gone and we welcome Jo Banks and David Markus, who have kindly offered their services as a Committee member. We look forward to working with them and adding to the value the Committee strives to deliver MBN and the Members it represents. They both bring with them a wealth of experience and new ideas, which we look forward to sharing.   As well as the election of the Committee, we have voted in those Committee members holding Office Bearer positions. The positions have been elected as follows:

  • President                                   Dave King (that’s me)
  • Vice President/Treasurer            John Stock (the real boss)
  • Secretary/Public Officer              William Garrigos (Keeps the rest of us on track)
We love to meet those of you who are our new Members’. We have had several new Members join the growing list of MBN’ers and we all look forward to meeting with them at the next breakfast. They are:

  • Brett Douglas - Brooklyn Group
  • Sam Patterson – Life Coach
  • Shane Metz – Melbourne Storm
  • Jo Banks – U&i Consulting
  • Doreen Akkerman- Cancer Council Victoria
  • Michael Bishop – Pointon Partners
So why do we look forward to meeting these new Members at the next breakfast? We are in for a fun and informative morning.   We are in a recession. Remember. Kevin 07 told us, or should we now call him “Balanced Kevin – some say we went too hard in the budget and some say we went too soft, so we must be balanced at just the right spot!”  Now you all know that I am fearful of the recession - fearful that I might not be fully ready to make the most of the opportunity!  So what should I do?

Carpe deum – Seize the Day (Yes I am a Dead Poet Society tragic – but the power and the emotion associated with the movie just can’t help but inspire and drive you to be successful)
So, you don’t believe me! Well all the more reason you need to come to the next breakfast.

“Never Let a Good Recession Pass You By”

Tom Elliot is a leading financial commentator with 3AW, Director of his own Investment Business MM&E Capital and he tells me in training as a Boxer. Listen as he draws on his own experiences and observations as he shows how recessions can be an opportunity not to be missed. Miss it and you will regret it. Opportunities like this do not present themselves very often, so don’t be the one who will be saying next year “I wish I had acted when the opportunity presented itself.” He who hesitates – misses out.

SO BOOK NOW. DO NOT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY.

REMEMBER. IDEAS DO NOT BRING RESULTS. ACTIONS DO.

REGISTER NOW SO YOU DON’T MISS OUT.

IF YOU SPEND TOO LONG THINKING ABOUT TAKING A STEP, YOU’LL END UP STANDING ON ONE FOOT!

And as I promised, I will also give you my definition of FEAR and why I look through it.   So see you on the 21st at the RACV Club. I’ll be there with a suit on, which will look a lot better than just having bells on!   Finally, what are some of the best ways to improve your skill, (physical or emotional), set to develop how you succeed in your personal and professional lives? Three that spring to mind are:
1.    Learning by experience
2.    Being shown by someone
3.    Reading it

We I guess we have all tried number one at some point in time; it is the old adage “learn by experience”. But what if we can help avoid that experience, by learning from someone else?   Now it is not often practical for us to have someone around to always show us, but what about reading it! Why can’t we read about others experiences and learn from them!   Well we can now. The Melbourne Business Book Club is in full swing – so start today and learn from others experience. See the web site for all the details and the benefits that Membership gets you!   Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you all on the 21st.

Regards

Dave King
