I love sometimes being controversial. For those that know me, I can already hear the laughter and see the heads nodding.
And part of being controversial, is sometimes the result of making a sexist comment.
WELL I’M GOING TO MAKE A SEXIST COMMENT INVOLVING THE FAIRER SEX!
How bloody good are Females?
So bloody good, I’m seeing PINK!
That is right. It is breast cancer awareness week and there is pink everywhere. Even my kids can identify with it and so do us blokes.
What a fantastic job the females do in gaining awareness of the most common cancer a female over 40 can get.
But blokes, how bloody bad hopeless are we?
It is only recently that our biggest cancer threat, prostate cancer, has been gaining a bit of traction. But we need to take a leaf out of the Female Marketing Strategy since they are the experts and we are clearly lagging behind.
How bad are we at getting checked out by our GP?
Ok. I hear your excuses.
· “I know when I’m really sick.”
· “It will be better in a few days.”
· “I don’t have time to get to the doctors”
Well guess what. Make time and don’t be so tough.
I am lucky. As a pilot, I get a check up once a year; but having also seen a close family member, (bet you can guess what sex the family member was), use all of the above excuses and pass away 6 months after being diagnosed with cancer, I try to go to the Doctor’s when I need to. I have been prodded and poked, (yes even that uncomfortable one as my Dad’s father had prostate cancer), by my GP, but at least I know that generally, I am healthy.
Dr Bernie Crimmins has been a great advocate of Men’s health and we are honoured to be helping him launch his new book “Blokes Health”. The launch will be supported by the Governor of Victoria, Professor David de Kretser, who is also a big advocate of men’s health.
But while it’s important that you blokes learn about taking an interest in your health, it’s not just you I want.
I WANT MORE GIRLS!!!!!!!
Now don’t take me out of context here, and please stay with me on this one. (My lovely wife might question this statement as well – or may sell me to the lowest bidder!)
The reason us blokes, (the useless ones in a medical sense), finally go to the doctors, is because our female counterparts, generally make us do it.
WELL GOOD ON YOU GIRLS. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
I want you girls to turn up as well. If you do come along, the males will follow and that is what is important. We need your help to get us blokes to learn about taking care of ourselves and we can learn from the good work you girls have been doing.
Also, don’t forget our other events coming up. We have these events for you, so make the most of them.
BE HEALTHY AND BE THERE.
Happy Networking
